2/28 Betting Picks

After a bad week was capped off by some recent personal tragedies, I decided to take some time off. I will update what happened later when I post the video picks.

The Heat are listed as 9.5 point underdogs in Houston tonight. Both of these teams are playing the second half of a back to back and coming off a win. I like the Heat to cover this spread and possibly win outright. The Heat have somewhat had the Rocket’s number in recent years. They have won 3 of their last 5 matchups and covered 4 of the last 5. The Heat play a relentless style of defense that comes from Pat Riley’s influence. They always close out on shooters, making them uncomfortable. This is huge against a team like Houston that is always looking to get their shooters open. The Heat are able to disrupt their timing which is what usually gives them the advantage. With both of these teams coming off a back to back, fatigue cannot be used as an advantage. I like the Heat to keep this one close or win outright.

In the NHL I am intrigued by the Dallas Stars @ LA Kings game. The Kings are in last place in the west and have lost 9 straight. The Stars are a talented team that has been making a playoff push. Despite the perceived mismatch the Stars are only -120 on the money line and the Kings are even money. This line is telling me to take the Kings. The Stars are coming off a loss in Vegas and now had a night off in LA. Being from Boston, I am familiar with Tyler Seguin’s off-ice escapades. Hearing that him and the boys went out in Vegas and then again in LA would not surprise me at all. I think that has a lot to do with the line so I’m going with the Kings. It’s the last game of the night too which makes it a perfect bailout pick.

The Picks:

Heat +9.5

LA Kings +100
