Blackhawks @ Red Wings Betting Preview

The Blues wagon continued last night! They got out to an early 2 goal lead that was later tied in the 3rd period. But the Blues scored the game winning goal in overtime to salvage a 1-1 night for me. One more night without the NBA so I’m staying in the NHL with tonight’s pick.

A quick look at the NHL standings will show you that the Red Wings are the 3rd worst team in the NHL. The one time powerhouse has seen better days. The same can be said about the Chicago Blackhawks. After being one of the NHL’s powerhouses for the past decade, the Blackhawks missed the playoffs last year and struggled early this year. They have turned things around lately winning 9 of their last 11. This has put them just 1 point out of the final wild card spot in the west. I’m pointing this out to show the Blackhawks have more to play for right now than the Red Wings do. They also have Patrick Kane on an absolute tear. He has an 18 game points streak and is 2nd in the NHL in total points and goals. The Red Wings do not have any such players. Their leading points getter is Dylan Larkin with 55, Patrick Kane is at 90. The Red Wings have lost their last two games to the Flyers, in Philly 6-5 and in Detroit 3-1. The Blackhawks are coming off an 8-7 win over the Senators. It’s clear that both of these teams have trouble stopping goals. But the Blackhawks score a lot more than the Red Wings do. That is why I’m taking the Blackhawks. They are on a roll, they have a better offense and they have more to play for. They are listed as underdogs so I am going to take just the money line at an even price.

The Picks:

Blackhawks +100
