The Eagles have moved to 2 point favorites from 3 point favorites today. I mentioned in my preview blog and recap blog that the Eagles have had issues moving the ball this year. Their defense is also struggling due to their offenses inability to keep them off the field. They have become complacent after winning a Super Bowl and look like a mess. The Giants are coming off a loss on a last second 63 yard field goal. The offense finally looked good last week and will look to continue their momentum this week. I mentioned in my preview blog that I liked the Giants and I am sticking with that pick.
In the two games the Giants played against the Eagles last year Eli Manning was able to have a lot of success. This came despite having not good receivers to throw to. I think the Giants are ready for the challenge this week. The Eagles secondary has been their weakness since last year. They were able to hide this when they could score quick last year. That ability is gone without the same running game. They came into the season without LeGarette Blount who eats up a lot of tough yards and also does well blocking. They just lost Jay Ajayi for the season to a torn ACL and are now down to Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement. They are also dealing with an injury to right tackle Lane Johnson who may not play. To compound issues for the Eagles the weather is forecasting rain. This will help the Giants as they will look to establish a running game and should be able to wear down Philadelphia’s defense. The Giants match up well with the Eagles and I see them winning tonight and working towards taking control of the NFC East. I wrote in my preseason blog that I had the Giants winning this division and the Eagles not making the playoffs. This game is going to be the first step towards that coming true. The NFC east is still wide open and the Giants are the only team that looks to me to have any heart. None of the teams in the NFC east have been able to move the ball well at all. Despite all of their offensive troubles the Giants have still scored the most points per game out of all of them. The Giants defense also gets their best pass-rusher Olivier Vernon back today. I am taking the home underdog Giants here. I think they win outright.
