The Chiefs travel to Denver as 4 point favorites in tonights matchup against the Broncos. The total is set at 53.5 as the Chiefs have the number 1 offense averaging just over 39 points per game. Their defense on the other hand has given up 30 points per game and is ranked last in overall efficiency. Denver’s has looked mediocre both offensively and defensively so far this year and are ranked 15th and 16th respectively. Led by Von Miller, the Broncos defense is given a lot of media attention ever since their Super Bowl win 3 years ago. That defense was extremely talented and most of the talent is not in Denver anymore. They also have a new coach and have been underwhelming the past two seasons.
As much attention that the Broncos defense receives, the Chiefs offense has gotten even more. This will be their first opportunity to show what they are capable of on national TV. The Chiefs are 3-0 straight up and against the spread this year. As great as their offense has been, their defense has been just as bad. They are ranked last in overall efficiency but their silver lining is that they have faced 3 pretty good offenses in the Chargers, Steelers and 49ers. They should have an easier task tonight against the Case Keenum led Broncos offense. Although on the other side the Chiefs offense has a tougher task against the Broncos defense than we have seen from their aforementioned opponents.
The Broncos are 2-1 straight up but 0-2-1 against the spread. They were able to benefit from the Seahawks and Raiders getting fatigued late in their first two home games. Last week in Baltimore they started quick after blocking a punt but were not able to score any more points after getting a TD on their second drive. There has been money coming in on the Broncos as the line has come down from 5 where it opened and went all the way to 3.5 and sits at 4 now. The Broncos have the home field advantage here again but thus far have not showed the same advantage they have in years past. They let the Seahawks hang around far longer than they should have and they got a little lucky in beating the Raiders. The Raiders defense is ranked 31st just ahead of the Chiefs and the Broncos had issues moving the ball against them. Case Keenum is not the answer and their defense is not as good as it was either.
I’m laying the points with the Chiefs in this game. Andy Reid always starts hot and I think that continues tonight. I think he is going to really want to show out on Monday night in front of the entire nation. The Broncos secondary has been suspect all year and if they fall behind they will have no chance to keep up with the Chiefs offense. Case Keenum is just as good as Trevor Simien was for the Broncos but so far is getting the benefit of the doubt with their 2-1 start. We saw with the Vikings last year that Case Keenum is not the quarterback you want leading your team down late. They used a good running game to compliment their defense and hide Keenum’s flaws. He is not a quarterback that can lead a team to victory and that will not change tonight. Chiefs win big.
