The long awaited rematch between these two fighters has finally arrived. GGG comes into the fight as the favorite with the price to win at -155. The over under is set at 11.5 rounds. Their first fight went the distance and ended up being a draw. Golovkin finds himself the favorite here after appearing to have won the first fight. Also with Alvarez failing drug tests one has to wonder if he will be able to box as well when he is clean. Alvarez is the younger fighter at only 28 to GGG’s 36. Age is really the only thing I can hold against GGG. He has not shown any signs of slowing down yet.
Every time I see GGG fight it looks like his hands are boulders compared to everyone else. He lands his punches so efficiently always at the right time and right angle. Its like a work of art. He just seems to hit so much harder than other boxers do. Outside the ring, he is not much of a showman. He doesn’t talk a bunch of trash. He does his best work in he ring and does it well. His record says it all at 38-0-1 with 34 knockouts. People may point out that his competition has not been the best but there is nothing he can do about that. He simply goes out kicks ass and then it is on to the next opponent. This fight will be no different. Although Alvarez is younger, Golovkin is more skilled and hits so much harder. The last fight had one judge that was wildly off the other two to cause the draw. I don’t thing Golovkin will let it get to that this time. I like Golovkin and the under.
I know it is not wise to look ahead but I am more interested in who GGG fights after this. Floyd Mayweather came out with a video on his Instagram where he and Manny Pacquiao talked about fighting again. That idea sounds terrible in my opinion. Pacquiao was past his prime when they first fought. Had Mayweather actually agreed to fight Pacquiao in his prime that may make another fight with him worth seeing. At this point they are too buddy buddy for me. Their first fight looked like an overhyped sparring session. Now they’re together at a music festival discussing their next fight? I need more hate in my boxing. Right now with GGG and Canelo you can tell they do not like each other. During the weigh-in Alvarez got in GGG’s face and had to be restrained. Golovkin looked as if he could not care less. He is all business. After the weigh in his trainer was quoted saying, “What you saw on the stage was Canelo’s world collapsing around him”. That isn’t just a quote you say when you are trying to hype up your boxing match. In his mind Canelo’s time is almost up. All of the talking he did in the weigh in and all of the excuses for failed drug tests all comes to a head tonight. Gennady Golovkin will crush him. The only thing I can hope for is that Mayweather doesn’t run from fighting him like he ran from Pacquiao all those years. If there is anyone that can break that undefeated streak, it is GGG.
