The LA Rams head north to Oakland as 6.5 point road favorites to the Raiders. The Rams have very high expectations this year. Building on a season last year where the Rams won the NFC West they brought in DT Nadamukong Suh and CBs Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters to add to the leagues 6th overall defense. They also brought in playmaking WR Brandin Cooks to their offense that also has last years offensive player of the year RB Todd Gurley. This line started at -1 and has ballooned out to -6.5 with a lot of money coming in on the Rams. Since this game is on Monday night and is the last game it will most likely be the heaviest bet game.
Even if you can get the Rams at -6.5 I still think that is a good bet. The Raiders are coming into this season with questions everywhere. They had false super bowl expectations last year in my opinion. They were able to benefit from an easier schedule the season before that but they did not have a great defense and still don’t. Especially considering the loss of their best player Khalil Mack. I do not trust their defense or their offense. There are questions really about every skill position player. Derek Carr and Amari Cooper have not had as good of a connection as Carr had in the past with Crabtree. Will they be able to improve on that? Also will the Raiders be able to get a successful running game going with aging RB Marshawn Lynch? I think the answer to both of these questions will be no. Especially with the defensive talent that the Rams have. The Raiders will run a west-coast offense that is based on rhythm. The Rams will not let the Raiders offense get in rhythm. The defensive line led by Suh and DEs Michael Brockers and Aaron Donald should help to disrupt anything the Raiders try to get going on the ground and Talib and Peters should shut down the Raiders passing attack. Jon Gruden also historically has not started well. This is a game where the black hole might start to boo very loudly against the Raiders. I see the Rams winning this game and covering the 6.5 point spread.
Rams -6.5 (-110)
Rams-0.5, Lions -1
