The Lions start their season at home tonight as 7 point favorites to the New York Jets. The Jets come into this season rebuilding around rookie QB Sam Darnold. He is starting his first game tonight against a defense led by rookie head coach Matt Patricia. The Lions also signed RB LeGarette Blount to help what will be a RB committee. Blount has been the leading rusher on back to back Super Bowl champions and is able to keep defenses off balance. This will be helpful for QB Matt Stafford who leads an offense that also includes WRs Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay and Golden Tate.
I am over on both of these teams low win totals. However I am much more invested in the Lions and believe they will be a threat to win the NFC North. Their offense is very talented and QB Matt Stafford has a good rapport with creative offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. Their defense is also talented and should also play much better with the coaching of Matt Patricia. The Jets are still rebuilding. Although I think they will do better than people are expecting I do not think this is one of the games they will show it. They are very young and having a rookie QB playing his first game on Monday night on the road will be difficult. The crowd will be more into it as they will have optimism for the season. The Lions defense will be ready to capitalize on mistakes made by Sam Darnold. I like the Lions to cover the full game -7 and I also like them as a teaser leg with the Rams.
Rams -0.5 (more on this in a moment)
